Technical Guidance: Implementation of Energy Management in Government Buildings in the Scope of West Java

Bandung, 13 March 2023 - The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources through the Directorate of Energy Conservation together with MENTARI Energy Efficiency, supported by UK Partnering for Accelerated Climate Transitions (UK PACT), is holding technical guidance (Bimtek) on the application of energy management in government buildings. The technical guidance activity was held for four days, from 13 to 16 March 2023 in Bandung, West Java. The purpose of this technical guidance is to produce human resources who are able to understand and apply energy saving, energy conservation, especially in the buildings they manage.

A total of 57 participants from 41 different agencies attended this training, of which 6 of them were women. The UK-PACT MENTARI Energy Efficiency project encourages women's participation in this training. Currently, fossil fuels and a small portion of renewable energy are used to meet national energy needs. The increasing use of fossil fuels, especially oil and coal, has a long-term impact on environmental damage, such as greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from the power sector and the transportation sector. These two sectors are the main contributors to GHG emissions which are responsible for global warming which is followed by the phenomenon of climate change.

The most affordable GHG reduction strategy is energy efficiency and energy conservation. In addition to the power generation and transportation sectors, the energy efficiency of the building sector can be applied significantly. It is hoped that integrating energy management systems into public buildings will strengthen efforts to reduce GHG emissions. In an effort to reduce emissions, especially in the building sector, the government has a strategy by issuing several regulations and standards related to efficiency in buildings.
