Training of Trainer: Energy Managers and Auditors equipped with Climate Change Knowledge for Energy Management in Buildings
Serpong, Banten. In order to integrate aspects of climate change in the field of energy conservation, the Directorate of Energy Conservation, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, together with experts from IREEM for the MENTARI Energy Efficiency program, have launched a manual on climate change aspects for energy managers and energy auditors in June 20, 2023. As a follow-up to the launch of the book, a Training of Trainers (ToT) was carried out which involved relevant stakeholders, especially trainers for energy managers and auditors. Participants of ToT are equipped with knowledge of aspects of climate change and how to integrate them into energy management or audits in buildings.
This activity was held for three days, from 5 to 7 July 2023. A total of 23 participants took part in the ToT event, 8 of whom were women. The activity participants came from the Directorate of Energy Conservation, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources; Director of Greenhouse Gas Inventory and MPV, KLHK; and Professional Certification Institute (LSP). In general, there are three main ToT agendas, namely, learning activities in classrooms, field visits, and the practice of calculating Green House Gases (GHG) emissions inventory and mitigation.

There were four resource persons who filled out this training, including: Mr. Dicky Edwin Hindarto (IREEM Expert), Mr. Unggung Whidiantoro (IREEM Expert), Mr. La Ode Wahid (IREEM Expert), and Mr. William Carlos (TUV Rehinland). The training materials taught are the substance of the climate change aspect handbook for energy managers and auditors, such as the relationship between climate change aspects and the competence of energy managers and auditors, what is the role of energy managers and auditors in controlling climate change in the building sub-sector, inventory and GHG emission mitigation, validation and verification of GHG emissions, examples of Carbon Economic Value projects on buildings and their financing opportunities, as well as how to implement Environmental Social Governance (ESG) and Carbon Economic Value.

On the last day, participants had the opportunity to make a field visit to Multimedia Nusantara University (UMN) which has implemented energy efficiency in its buildings. UMN has been recorded as the 1st Winner of the 2013 National Energy Efficiency Award in the Energy Efficient Building Category and the 1st Runner-Up Winner of the 2019 Asean Energy Awards - Energy Efficient Building for the Tropical Building category. The participants were invited to see and learn about waste management, wastewater management, infiltration wells and biopores as well as passive and active building designs.
In the field visit session, the participants were assigned to conduct an inventory of GHG emissions and carbon absorption in UMN buildings by conducting direct interviews with UMN staff consisting of the Dean, Lecturers and building managers. At the end of the activity, each participant representative presented the results of his inventory and provided recommendations on efforts that could be made by UMN in reducing GHG emissions. UMN welcomes the various recommendations provided and plans to follow up on them by conducting further studies to inventory GHG emissions in the campus environment including buildings.
